Laura Desbien
Laura Desbiens has always loved to dance. She started taking dance classes at the age of 13. Through the School for Contemporary Dancers she studied Hip Hop, Jazz, Ballet, Contemporary, and Tap until she was 15. She also took park in the Dance and Performing Arts program at Issac Newton School for 3 years. From age 13-14 she took part in the Quantum Program offered by the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, where she took Ballet and Jazz classes, and performed at the WAG. In grade 10 she was involved in the dance program at Tec Voc High School, along with participating in the Production of West Side Story. In grade 11 she attended Sisler where she was involved in the dance program, Sisler's Most Wanted, and participating in the production of the Wiz. Grade 12 saw the return of Laura to Tec Voc, were she was involved in the dance program and participated in the production if Cinderella. Laura also was a part of the Hip Hop Troupe at School for Contemporary Dancers from 2004-2006. Laura joined Define Movement in the fall of 2007 and has been involved to this day. Laura is currently teaching at Manitoba Great Wall of Dance.

Loa Olafson
In Spring 2011 Loa Olafson completed a B.A. with a double major in English and Dance accredited by the University of Winnipeg. In Spring 2013, she graduated from the faculty of education 2 year after degree program at the University of Winnipeg and completed her bachelor of education. During her last practicum placement she worked in Rachel Cooper's dance program at Maples Collegiate in Seven Oaks School Division. Throughout her training she has had opportunities to work with hip hop and modern dance choreographers from across Canada. She has been a member of Define Movement since 2007.
In Fall 2010 Loa taught at N.E.E.D.S as a hip hop and cultural dance facilitator, dual aspects of a weekly youth mentorship program. Since 2008 Loa has worked with Graffiti Art Gallery as a dance instructor in the St.Art programs. Loa has taught workshops with many youth based service organizations in Winnipeg; Studio 393, Ircom, Spence Neighbourhood Association, Rainbow Resource Center, West End Cultural Center and Crossing Communities. She has also taught for the University of Winnipeg Student Association’s weeklong annual Freestyle Hip Hop Festival and the CKUW Radio Camp series.
As a choreographer Loa has been commissioned to create work for notable organizations in the arts. In November 2011 she created a trio for the Plug In Institute for Contemporary Art, this work was performed at the opening event for their new building. In December 2010 the Manitoba Arts Council commissioned Loa to create a work that was performed by the N.E.E.D.S (Newcomers Employment & Education Development Services) youth dancers at the fourth annual Canadian Symposium for Arts & Learning. In August 2011 Loa created a work with youth dancers for The Graffiti Art Gallery, this piece was performed for The Right Honorable Governor General Michaëlle Jean. In Spring 2011, for núna (now) Loa was commissioned to create a new work on two Winnipeg dance artists and selected Emma Rose and Arlo Baskier-Nabess.

Maribeth Tabanera
Maribeth Tabanera started dancing at the age of eight with Magdaragat Philippines Incorporated. Always hungry to try new styles of dance, she has experience in Hip Hop, Filipino Folk Dance, Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, Improv, Tap, Modern, and Breaking. In 2007, Maribeth became a member of Define Movement. Maribeth continues to develop her Hip Hop dance education through workshops offered by local and world class choreographers. To date, she has had the opportunity to learn from world renowned artists such as Twitch (LA), Shaun Evaristo (LA), Jason Wright (LA), Yeya Ekstrom (Sweden), and Steve Bolton (Montreal).
She has taught Hip Hop classes for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Recreational School, The Manitoba Great Wall of Performing Arts, and The River East Transcona School Division Continuing Education. She continues to teach dance workshops for all ages in the community of Winnipeg. In June 2012 she completed her Industrial Arts/Technology Teacher Education Diploma at Red River College. In June 2013, Maribeth graduated from the University of Winnipeg's Faculty of Education with a Bachelor of Education.
